Southwest Windpower has just introduced the latest evolution in small wind turbines, the NEW AIR Breeze. The AIR Breeze combines what has made AIR X the world’s number one selling small wind turbine with new technology which greatly lowers noise and improves battery charging at lower wind speeds.
It’s new controller circuit monitors wind speed and slows the blades as it reaches its rated output preventing it from going into flutter (the source of the noise).
The AIR X’s new charge controller periodically stops charging, reads the battery voltage, and compares it to the voltage setting, shutting off all current to the battery if the batteries are fully charged. This allows the AIR X to charge any size battery bank.
The AIR X limits input power by controlling the torque from the blades. The power no longer has to be dissipated by the electronics resulting in lower stress on the circuit, bearings and other materials. The electronic stall design reduces the speed to 600 rpm in high winds, thereby reducing turbine and tower loading.
Southwest Windpower offers a line of tower kits that make it possible to completely install an AIR within a few hours. The AIR X can be used in combination with photovoltaic modules and/or multiple AIR modules can be installed to meet your power needs.

$24 The AIR X should have either a fuse or circuit breaker installed between it and the battery bank. The 12 volt AIR requires a 100A fuse or 100A circuit breaker. The 24V AIR requires a 30A fuse or 30A circuit breaker. Of course circuit breakers are more convenient.

An analog (needle type) ammeter works well for monitoring wind machines. You can more easily see the current varying with the wind speed than you can with a digital meter. Includes a 30A shunt.

The Whisper 100, with its 7 ft. rotor diameter and 40 sq. ft. swept area, is designed for the user located in a site with medium to high wind speed averages (12 mph and greater). The 100 will produce 3.3 kWh/day at a 12 mph average wind speed. The Whisper 100 can be field adjusted for 12/24/36/48 volts DC. It is delivered factory set at 24 volts DC.

The big brother to the 100, the Whisper 200 features a 9 ft rotor diameter and an 80 sq. ft. swept area that provides the user with greater output at low wind speed averages. With twice the swept area, the 200 is capable of producing twice the power of the 100 at lower wind speeds. The 200 will deliver 6.3 kWh per day at a 12 mph average wind speed.

Whisper 500 with Controller

The Whisper 500 is the most powerful wind turbine in Southwest Windpower's lineup. The 3000 watt rated turbine will deliver in excess of 500 kWh per month in a 12 mph wind. This machine has a 15 ft. rotor diameter providing 175 sq. ft. of swept area the 500 has been redesigned, incorporating a stronger, larger yaw shaft, new blade stabilizer straps and a third spindle bearing for increased stability. The 500 is an excellent machine for remote homes with large energy demands.
Power is transmitted to the EZ wire control panel where it is converted to DC. The controller is capable of regulating as much as 200 amps. Excess power is diverted through a resistor bank that can be used for area heating.

Whisper Tower Kits
Southwest Windpower provides tower kits for mounting the Whisper series wind turbines. The kits supply all the hardware necessary to install a guyed tower except for the poles and anchors. Anchor kits are listed below as well. Poles of the correct diameter for each kit must be obtained locally.

The pipe used for the tower pole is chain link fence tubing. There are three different wall thicknesses available. See chart below for wall thickness vs. maximum wind speed. The .065 pipe costs about 85 cents per foot and comes in 21' lengths. A 5' piece is needed at the top of either tower for mounting the AIR. The balance of that section will be used for the base and lever pole.
