DC Quartz Halogen Bulbs

With standard screw base

These bulbs have a standard screw base and a standard frosted globe. They are similar to a DC incandescent bulb, only the insides are quartz halogen instead of tungsten. The quartz halogen light is more like daylight than a incandescent bulb. These bulbs last nearly three times as long as a standard bulb, over 2000 hours. The best part is that they give you 50% to 100% more light. We now carry these bulbs in clear glass cover. They are priced the same as the frosted versions.

MR-16 Quartz Halogen Floodlight

MR-16's are miniature floodlights, 2" in diameter. They produce at least 50% more light than the same wattage DC incandescent. They deliver such bright directed light, we actually use them in mountain bike headlights for night riding in the woods! One light hanging above a table, or one light in a reading lamp are good applications. These lights have bi-pin bases. You can solder onto the pins, but we recommend buying the adapter to convert to a standard screw base. Picture shows bulb and base.

MR-16 Floods with Edison Bases

We now have the MR-16 Quartz Halogen floodlights made with integrated Edison bases. This light has a plastic cover over the bulb. They are nicer looking and easier to use than the lights above, but they are only made in a 20 watt version and of course the bulb is not replaceable. Bulb life is 4000 hours.

MR-11 Mini Floods with Edison Bases

MR-11's are miniature Quartz Halogen floodlights, permanently fitted with Edison bases. The miniature bulb is mounted in a 1 3/8" diameter reflector which has an integral plastic cover. Light output appears to be the same as the MR-16's, watt for watt. However the 12V versions are only available in 5 to 15watts. Note that these are also available in 24V versions. We haven't been able to test the light output of a 20W 24V version against a 20W 12V version as yet. The bulbs are not replaceable but their rated life is 4000 hours.

This is an automotive map light which makes an excellent reading or task light. It features a 12V DC 5 watt Halogen lamp, with a 20'' flexible neck and a mounting bracket with screws. Very good for reading in bed.

DC Incandescent Light Bulbs

With standard screw base

These DC bulbs give you about the same light for the same wattage as conventional 120V AC incandescent light bulbs. They will work in conventional lamps and light fixtures, as long as any switch used is a clicking type switch, not a silent mercury switch. Because of their inefficiency, they should be used only where light is needed for a short period of time (a closet or hallway). Don't use these for reading lights.
